It was a really hot summer day. Sally was sitting on a bench in the park, playing a game on her handheld gaming console.
"Almost there! Yes! New high score! Wow, it's been a while since I made that previous high score, but it's nice that I could finally top it," said Sally.
As she was turning off the console and placing it in her backpack, she saw someone walk along the pathway. It was a blue-haired boy wearing a red, long-sleeved shirt, long, light blue pants, and black shoes and carried a light brown backpack on his back and a canteen hanging on his shoulder. He looked exhausted.
"Hey there, you OK?" asked Sally.
"Huh?" said the boy as he looked over to her. "Oh, yeah, I'm fine. Just parched is all."
"I hear ya. It is pretty hot out today," replied Sally.
"Yeah, no kidding. If I had known it was going to be THIS hot, I would have brought extra water," said the boy, grabbing his canteen, opening it, and holding it upside down to show how empty it was.
"No worries. I have plenty of bottled water in this cooler if you want one," said Sally.
"Thanks! That's really nice of you!" said the boy as he walked over, opened the cooler, and grabbed a water bottle.
"Mind if I sit down here?" asked the boy.
"No problem. Have a seat," said Sally.
The boy sat down, opened the bottle and started gulping down water.
"Ah, much better," said the boy with relief. "Can't tell you how much I appreciate this. Thanks again!"
"No problem, glad I could help," replied Sally. "So, are you from around here?"
"Nah, just stopping by, seeing what there is to see in this town before moving on to the next one," replied the boy.
"I see. So, I take it then you're a trainer on a pokémon journey?" asked Sally.
"Yep! Sure am! By the way, name's Layne," replied Layne.
"Nice to meet you Layne, I'm Sally," replied Sally.
"Nice to meet you too Sally," replied Layne.
"So, tell me Layne, what's the goal of your journey?" asked Sally.
"To be honest, I'm on this journey for the purpose of seeing new places, meeting new people, and maybe even making a friend or two along the way. Of course though, that doesn't mean I'll pass up the chance to challenge a few gyms along the way. I've even earned a few badges already," replied Layne before reaching into a pocket of his backpack, removing a badge case, and opening it, displaying a set of miscellaneous badges.
"Wow, pretty good," complimented Sally. "In my opinion, that's the best part about a pokémon journey. Getting to see new places, experience new things, meet new people alongside your pokémon, and for you and your pokemon to grow stronger as it goes on."
"Glad you agree! I suppose then that you're a pokémon trainer as well?" asked Layne.
"Yep! I'm actually a pokémon breeder, but that's essentially another form of pokémon trainer," replied Sally.
"Interesting," replied Layne after finishing a drink of water. "Well then, how about we get our minds off this heat with a pokémon battle? You up for it?"
"Alright, I accept your challenge!" said Sally with a competitive smile.
"Cool! Then let's go!" said Layne competitively.
The two got up off the bench and walked until they found a large open area. The two walked to opposite sides until they were a fair distance apart and faced each other.
"So, how will the battle be structured?" asked Sally.
"It will be a 3-on-3 battle. Best two out of three wins," replied Layne.
"Sounds good to me," replied Sally.
Layne raised his wrist up to his face and hovered the index finger of his left hand above his pokétch.
"Call the toss. Heads or Tails?" asked Layne.
"Tails," replied Sally.
Layne pressed his finger to the screen of his pokétch and watched the coin flip until it came to a stop.
"Well, looks like I'm choosing first. Fine by me," said Layne before reaching into his pocket and pulling out a pokéball.
"Let's get started! Joltik, go!" shouted Layne as he tossed the pokéball.
Joltik emerged from the pokéball and shouted with competitive spirit.
"My turn! Go Growlithe!" shouted Sally.
She tossed the pokéball and Growlithe emerged, howling happily.
"Hmm… a fire type vs. a bug and electric type. This'll be a challenge alright, but still doable," said Layne.
"Then show me what you've got!" shouted Sally competitively.
"Gladly!" replied Layne competitively. "Joltik, discharge!"
Joltik unleashed a blast of thunderbolts in all directions.
"Dodge it with dig!" shouted Sally.
Growlithe dug into the ground, dodging the attack.
"Clever, but not cleaver enough! Joltik, keep moving and don't stop.
Joltik began scurrying quickly on the battlefield. His footsteps and bodyweight were too light for Growlithe to accurately determine Joltik's current location. Growlithe emerged seconds later where Joltik was to find that Joltik had moved to the opposite side of the field.
"Signal beam!" shouted Layne.
Joltik shot a beam of varying colors toward Growlithe.
"Match it with flamethrower!" shouted Sally.
Growlithe shot a stream of fire and the two attacks collided centerfield before exploding.
"Discharge again!" shouted Layne.
Joltik unleashed discharge. After the attack was done, the smoke cleared to reveal that Growlithe was missing.
"Uh-oh! Quick! Move Joltik!" shouted Layne.
However, no sooner had he finished his command than Growlithe emerged from the ground below Joltik, knocking him skyward.
"Quick Joltik, stun it with bug buzz!" shouted Layne.
Joltik emitted a screeching sound wave. The attack left Growlithe stunned with irritation.
"Perfect! Now, land on top of it!" shouted Layne.
Joltik adjusted itself to land on Growlithe's back.
"Quick, flamethrower!" shouted Sally.
"Growlithe shook off his stunned state and fired flamethrower at Joltik. The attack hit, sending Joltik flying backward. Joltik landed back on the ground feet first, and stood ready to launch another attack.
"Try again Joltik! Head for Growlithe!" shouted Layne.
Joltik began rushing toward Growlithe.
"Flamethrower! Once more!" shouted Sally.
Growlithe fired another flamethrower.
"Jump over it and use electroweb!" shouted Layne.
Joltik jumped high into the air, dodging the flamethrower, and fired an electrified web. The attack hits Growlithe and holds him tightly to the ground while delivering a powerful shock.
"Excellent! Now's our chance, latch onto Growlithe's back and use discharge!" shouted Layne.
Joltik continued to rush toward Growlithe and delivered a jump to land directly on Growlithe.
"Nice try! Growlithe, use dig!" shouted Sally.
Growlithe began digging into the ground. As he did so, the web around it began to stretch.
"Uh-oh! I think I know what you're doing!" shouted Layne nervously.
"Now Growlithe, let go!" shouted Sally.
Growlithe stopped digging. The force from the web caused Growlithe to be launched upward, knocking Joltik skyward just as he was coming in to land.
"Now! Free yourself with flame wheel and let them have it!" shouted Sally confidently.
Growlithe performed somersaults and became engulfed in fire. The somersault movement combined with the flames freed Growlithe from the electroweb. Growlithe then continued the attack toward Joltik and landed a direct hit. Joltik flew backwards, landing a short distance in front of Layne and laying unconscious.
"Alright! Round one goes to us!" shouted Sally happily.
Growlithe happily rushed toward Sally and jumped at her chest.
"Whooa!" shouted Sally was she was being knocked on her back.
Growlithe started happily licking Sally's face.
"Hehehe! Hey, that tickles!" giggled Sally.
"You did a great job! Well done!" said Sally as she petted Growlithe's head.
Growlithe howled happily.
Layne watched this with a smile on his face.
"Even though I lost this round, I can't help but feel happy seeing something as cute as this," said Layne to himself.
"Joltik, return!" said Layne as he called Joltik back to his pokéball.
"It's O.K, you'll win it next time. I promise," said Layne to the pokéball before placing it back in his pocket.
"Guess you got us that time, nice job!" complimented Layne.
"Thanks, you and Joltik did pretty good as well. I imagine if there were some trees nearby that Joltik could have used to websling from or form a web to stand on, the results may have been different," replied Sally.
"Yeah, I see you mean. Oh well though, gotta work with what's given," replied Layne.
"Indeed," replied Sally.
"O.K Growlithe, return!" said Sally as she called Growlithe back to his pokéball and placed it back in her pocket.
"Well then, on to round 2," said Layne. "Since you won the last round, you pick first this time."
"Yep!" replied Sally as she exchanged the pokéball in her hand and raised it out of her pocket. "And here's my next pokémon! Go Lillipup!"
Sally tossed the pokéball and Lillipup emerged from the pokéball, barking happily.
"So it's a lillipup next then, huh? Alright," said Layne before reaching into his pocket and pulling out a pokéball. "I'm choosing this pokémon! Weezing, go!"
Layne tossed the pokéball and Weezing emerged, shouting confidently.
"Very well then! We have the first move! Lillipup, use tackle!" shouted Sally.
Lillipup rushed toward Weezing.
"Weezing, sludge bomb!" shouted Layne.
Weezing shot a barrage of purple blobs toward Lillipup.
"Dodge em and keep going!" shouted Sally.
Lillipup skillfully sidestepped and ducked under the blobs while still moving, but soon got hit by one and was knocked backward.
"Lillipup, you alright?" asked Sally.
Lillipup regained his stance, shook off the sludge on his fur, and barked confidently to reassure its trainer.
"Now Weezing, assurance!" shouted Layne.
Weezing rushed toward Lillipup, glowing with energy.
"Lillipup, protect!" shouted Sally.
Lillipup formed a green barrier around himself. Weezing collided with the barrier and was halted.
"Now Lillipup, use lick!" shouted Sally.
As the barrier disappeared, Lillipup stuck out his tongue, which then grew larger and started glowing, and delivered a powerful lick up Weezing's body. Weezing was knocked back a slight distance and floated back to Layne's side of the field.
"We're not letting you stop us that easily! Flamethrower!" shouted Layne.
Weezing fired a stream of fire from its maw toward Lillipup.
"Dodge it!" shouted Sally.
Lillipup dove into a nearby hole, dodging the flamethrower entirely.
"Quickly Weezing, use sludge bomb straight into that hole!" shouted Layne.
Weezing floated over to the hole close to it and fired sludge bomb into it. Lillipup was sent flying out of the hole he entered, being barraged by the sludge bomb.
"Let's try this again, assurance!" shouted Layne.
Weezing rushed toward Lillipup, using the attack.
"Protect, once more!" shouted Sally.
Lillipup surrounded himself with another green barrier. Weezing once more crashed into it and the attack was stopped cold.
"Alright, now use lick!" shouted Sally.
Once again, the barrier disappeared and Lillipup prepared to use lick.
"Not this time! Float upward to dodge!" shouted Layne.
Weezing expanded and deflated its body, causing it to suddenly shoot upward out of reach of Lillipup's lick.
"Flamethrower!" shouted Layne.
Weezing fired flamethrower. The attack hit Lillipup on the back and knocked him to the ground.
"Lillipup, you O.K?" asked Sally.
Lillipup began to rise to his feet, but then cringed in pain as a burst of flames surrounded him.
"Oh no! Lillipup's been burned," said Sally with concern.
"Then I'd say it's about time we finish this up!" shouted Layne. "Assurance!"
Weezing rushed toward Lillipup, using the attack.
"Alright Lillipup, use reversal!"
Lillipup jolted for Weezing, glowing with energy. The two pokémon collided with each other and held their ground until the force of the two attacks caused an explosion that knocked both backwards.
After the smoke cleared, both pokémon were standing and breathing heavily. However, within seconds, Lillipup's burn status took effect again and he collapsed unconscious.
"Excellent, round two goes to us!" shouted Layne triumphantly.
Weezing joined in on the cheer of his trainer.
Sally walked over to Lillipup and held him in her arms.
"You O.K Lillipup?" asked Sally gently.
Lillipup nodded and barked in reassurance before looking away in sadness.
"Hey, don't feel bad. You did a good job out there, you've really improved," said Sally reassuringly while petting his belly.
Weezing floated over to Sally and Lillipup, nodding in agreement and complimenting Lillipup's effort.
"Looks like Weezing agrees with her, and so do I," said Layne.
Lillipup barked happily in response.
"See Lillipup, no worries. We'll keep training and do better the next battle, O.K?" said Sally.
Lillipup barked happily in reply.
"That's the spirit! Now, you get some rest," said Sally before returning Lillipup to his pokéball and placing it back in her pocket.
"Weezing, you return as well," said Layne as he returned Weezing to his pokéball.
"Great job today, you should rest up now," said Layne to the pokéball before placing it back in his pocket.
"So, the score is tied 1 to 1 now. It's all down to this final round," said Sally.
"Yep, and I'm not about to lose it," said Layne as he pulled a pokéball out of his pocket.
"Here's my final pokémon! Tangela, go!" shouted Layne before tossing the pokéball.
Tangela emerged from the pokéball, shouting with competitive spirit.
"A tangela huh? Cool," commented Sally.
"Hmm… let's see now. Who should I use against it?" thought Sally to herself. "Hmm…. Alright, I think I got it."
Sally reached into her pocket and pulled out a pokéball.
"Time for my last pokémon! Go Treecko!" shouted Sally.
Sally tossed the pokéball and Treecko emerged from it, shouting with competitive spirit.
"So, matching grass type against grass type huh? Not sure what you have up your sleeve, but we're not going down easily," said Layne confidently.
"Tangela!" shouted Tangela in agreement.
Sally and Treecko both smiled competitively in response.
"Sounds like a challenge, but we're not going down without a fight either," said Sally.
"Treecko!" shouted Treecko in agreement.
"Good, then let the final round begin! Tangela, use power whip!" shouted Layne.
Tangela shot a pair of vines toward Treecko.
"Dodge and use them to get airborne!" shouted Sally.
Treecko ran toward Tangela, dodging both of the whips. She grabbed on to the second one and used it to swing into the air.
"Now, use slam!" shouted Sally.
Treecko began somersaulting in the air, her tail glowing with energy. The attack hits Tangela on the forehead.
"So, you get in a free shot, no matter. Grab onto it Tangela!" shouted Layne.
Tangela quickly retracts his vines and wraps one around Treecko's body, constricting her arms to her sides. He raised her high into the air as she tried to struggle out.
"Uh oh!" shouted Sally worryingly.
"Now Tangela, get back some energy with mega drain!" shouted Layne.
Tangela started to glow with green energy as the energy flowed up the vine toward Treecko.
"You use mega drain as well!" shouted Sally.
Treecko glowed with green energy as well as sent a wave of energy toward the wave Tangela sent. The two attacks meet in the middle as they changed color to red. They stayed like this for a few seconds before cancelling each other out.
"Not bad, but I've got more strategies up my sleeves than that one. Use tickle!" shouted Layne.
Tangela's vine began tickling Treecko's belly. Treecko tried her hardest not to laugh, but broke into laughter within seconds. Both Layne and Tangela watched this with mischievous looks.
"Hang in there Treecko, use energy ball!" shouted Sally.
Treecko opened up one of her eyes, a tear drop forming at it, and a green ball of energy formed in her mouth. Her laughter from the tickling made its formation a little shaky, but she formed it nonetheless and fired it at Tangela. The attack hits Tangela in the face, but it did little more than to stun him for about two seconds before resuming the tickling.
"That's it Tangela! Keep it up!" Shouted Layne.
Tangela nodded and kept on tickling Treecko's belly.
"Aw man, I've got to think of something, quickly. Treecko needs to get free of those vines or we won't stand a chance!" thought Sally as she watched Treecko try to struggle free and laugh uncontrollably.
"Alright Tangela, now go for the feet!" shouted Layne.
Tangela's second vine wrapped around Treecko's ankles and the tips took position at her soles. The tickling continued as the tips quickly stroked her soles. Treecko tried again to suppressor her laughter, but was quicker to laugh this time around and laughed louder than before.
"Sounds like we found an extremely ticklish spot, huh Tangela? Let's keep it up then!" shouted Layne.
Tangela nodded happily as he continued tickling Treecko's soles and switched to her toes.
"Oh no, this is not good! There's got to be something I can… wait, I think I got it!" thought Sally.
"Treecko, use energy ball, once more!" shouted Sally.
Like before, Treecko concentrated as much as she could and fired an energy ball at Tangela. The ball again collided with Tangela's face, stunning him.
"Now, grasswhistle!" shouted Sally.
Treecko quickly took a deep breath and began whistling a soothing tune. As Tangela recovered from his stunned state, he tried to return to tickling Treecko's feet, but was hit by the beginning of the song and started to grow drowsy. Treecko concentrated hard as the tickling picked back to continue whistling the tune without letting laughter mess it up. Within two seconds, Tangela's strokes became slower and lighter as his eyes drooped further shut.
"Quick, slam!" shouted Layne worryingly.
Tangela released the bind around Treecko's ankles and the vine glowed with energy. It was a very light hit, but the attack hit Treecko on her chest, Tangela released his bind around her body, and she was slammed into the ground as Tangela collapsed onto the ground, fast asleep.
"Oh no, Tangela!!" shouted Layne worryingly.
"Now's our chance Treecko! Slam, let's go!" shouted Sally confidently.
Treecko lunged at Tangela and hit him with slam. Tangela was knocked backward, but remained asleep.
"Come on Tangela, wake up!" shouted Layne.
Tangela continued to sleep.
"Keep it up Treecko! Back to back slams!" shouted Sally.
Treecko repeatedly used slam on Tangela, knocking him backwards, upwards, and sideways with each hit.
"Dang! This is not good. It's a good thing those tickles lowered its attack strength, but Tangela's gonna get creamed if he doesn't get up soon," thought Layne.
"Tangela, you gotta get up! It's all up to you! Wake up!" shouted Layne.
As Treecko was moving in to land another slam, Tangela woke up and caught her in one of his vines and raised her high into the air again.
"Oh no!" shouted Sally.
"Excellent, not a moment too soon!" shouted Layne.
"Oh well, no matter! Treecko, energy ball!" shouted Sally.
Treecko prepared an energy ball.
"Shake her Tangela!" shouted Layne.
Tangela shook Treecko around wildly in the air, causing her attack to be fired off in another direction.
"Aw no!" shouted Sally worryingly.
Layne laughed before replying, "Sorry! But I learn from my mistakes. And frankly, I don't know why I didn't think to do that earlier really. Oh well, no matter! Point is, I have the upper hand now, and I think it's time to end this! Tangela, use slam! Don't hold back!"
Tangela prepared a second vine above Treecko and drew it back to perform a forceful slam.
"Uh oh, this is bad. I need to thi… wait, I have an idea. I hope this works," raced Sally's mind.
"Twirl to the right!" shouted Sally quickly.
Treecko began spinning sideways, coiling Tangela's vines around her and pulling her toward Tangela and causing Tangela's attack to miss at the last second.
"Yes!! Now use slam!!" shouted Sally.
Treecko continued to spin as her tail glowed with energy until the attack hit Tangela, knocking him on his back.
"What!?" shouted Layne.
"Now Treecko, yank out the vine!" shouted Sally.
Treecko planted her feet on Tangela and pushed upward with all her strength until the vine snapped off Tangela's body. As she flew backwards through the air and landed on the ground, the vines ensnaring her loosened and she slipped out.
"Quick, mega drain!" shouted Sally.
Treecko fired mega drain toward Tangela. The attack hit Tangela as he tried to stand up, stunning him.
"Come on Tangela, stay strong!" shouted Layne.
Tangela slowly rose back to his feet and, with a battle cry, broke free of the attack.
Layne smiled competitively and said, "I have to admit, I could tell you are a strong opponent early on in the battle, but I didn't even see that last trick coming. You're indeed a worthy opponent."
"Thanks, glad you think so," replied Sally.
"Indeed! But now, this battle ends here! Power whip!" shouted Layne.
Tangela launched a set of vines toward Treecko.
"Dodge the first, and grab onto the second!" shouted Sally.
Treecko did so, avoiding both of the strikes and grabbing onto the second one.
"Pull him over!" shouted Sally.
Treecko tugged powerfully on the vine. Tangela was yanked off his and flew toward Treecko.
"Now Treecko! Energy ball, full power!!" shouted Sally.
Treecko fired a powerful energy ball toward Tangela. The attack hit him as he was flying forward and was knocked backward. As he landed face down just two feet in front of Layne, he planted his vines into the ground and tried to struggle to his feet. But, within seconds, he collapsed on his face unconscious.
"Yeah! We won!!" shouted Sally as she jumped with happiness and clenched her fist in victory.
Treecko rushed over to her trainer, shouting with happiness.
"Great job Treecko! Well done!" shouted Sally happily as Treecko jumped up and the two exchanged a high-five.
"Treecko tree!" said Treecko with joy.
Layne was looking down at the ground, shaking his head and chuckling.
"Dang it! I lost!" said Layne, almost laughing. "Oh well, that was an intense and enjoyable battle. My pokémon and I gave it our best, so I have no regrets."
Layne knelt down by Tangela and helped him to his feet.
"You O.K buddy?" said Layne.
"Tangela," replied Tangela tiredly.
"Glad to hear it," replied Layne. "And don't worry about it, we were pretty close. Our opponent just had more tricks up her sleeve than we expected. We'll get em next time."
The two walked over to Sally and Treecko.
"Congratulations! That was a great battle. I don't think I've had a battle that fun or intense in a while," complimented Layne.
"Thanks! You and your pokémon were pretty good as well. I was sure we were done for in that last round. But, I guess it goes to show, there's always a way to turn the tide of the battle," replied Sally.
"Very true," replied Layne. "Well, it was fun while it lasted. And look, I think the temperature went down a little while we were battling. Guess I was too into our battle to even notice."
"Yeah, same here," replied Sally. "So, now that that's done with, what should we do now?"
Suddenly, the foursome heard the sound of Layne's grumbling stomach.
"Your request has been heard stomach," said Layne jokingly.
The foursome laughed.
"Yeah, I'm getting hungry too. No doubt the same goes for our pokémon. Let's head back to the bench and get some lunch. I packed enough food for everyone," said Sally.
Treecko and Tangela both shouted happily.
"Sounds awesome, let's go!" said Layne.
The four walked back to the park bench. Sally got some cans of pokémon food and bowls out of her backpack and placed them on the ground. After doing so, she reached into her pocket and pulled out five pokéballs.
"O.K, come on out everyone!" shouted Sally as she tossed the pokéballs into the air.
Simipour, Growlithe, Lillipup, Pidgeotto, and Espeon emerged from their pokéballs.
Layne reached into his pockets and pulled out five pokéballs as well.
"Alright everyone, come on out!" shouted Layne as he tossed the pokéballs into the air.
Joltik, Koffing, Weezing, Jigglypuff, and Venonat emerged from their pokéballs.
"Alright everyone, ready for lunch?" said Sally.
The crowd of pokémon cheered.
The pokémon took their seats on the grass as Sally and Layne set out bowls in front of each and filled them with pokémon food. Afterward, Sally and Layne sat down on the bench, grabbed something out of Sally's picnic basket, and began eating.
After about a minute, Sally looked over to Layne, who was looking skyward, deep in thought.
"Everything O.K?" asked Sally.
"Huh? Oh, yeah, I was just thinking back to our battle," said Layne.
"I see. That's O.K, it's good to look back and think about how it went and what could have been done differently. It's one of the ways great trainers become stronger," replied Sally.
"I agree absolutely," replied Layne.
"Still though, that was a great battle. I have to say, I really liked your battle style. You took into consideration the natural abilities and characteristics of each pokémon used and formed strategies that revolved around them. Joltik's ability to latch onto to other pokémon, Weezing's ability to expand and compress its body to become lighter and float upward, and Tangela's natural response to ensnare opponents in its vines. Plus, you clearly also took into consideration their personalities when coming up with strategies. Overall, your battle style shows you have a great knowledge of pokémon in general. I think you could make for an excellent pokémon professor if you wanted," said Sally.
"Thanks! What about your battle strategy?" asked Layne.
"To be honest, my strategy is a lot alike yours. Taking into account the natural abilities of the pokémon and the personality of that particular pokémon," said Sally.
"Sounds awesome! You honestly should consider going on a pokémon journey yourself," said Layne.
"I've actually given it some thought. It would be cool to see new, exciting places, meet new people, and maybe earn some badges along the way. I might do so someday. For now though, I'm perfectly happy here in Aspertia City," said Sally.
"That's fine. It's entirely your opinion. I'm just saying, it's quite the experience," said Layne.
As the two continued their conversation and the group of pokémon continued eating, Tangela looked up from his food bowl toward Treecko, who was happily enjoying her lunch and sitting with her legs criss-crossed. He slowly sent two vines over to Treecko and lightly tickled her sides with them. She giggled in response. Tangela quickly retracted his vines before Treecko turned her head to face him. He looked away nonchalantly, acting as if he wasn't doing anything. Treecko smiled sarcastically before returning to her lunch. A few seconds later, Tangela set another set of vines toward Treecko; this time aimed at her feet and lightly tickled them. Treecko giggled ever louder for a few seconds before swiftly catching onto Tangela's vines and looking back at him with another sarcastic smile. Tangela blushed and laughed with embarrassment and tried again to act like he didn't know anything about what just happened. Sally, Layne, and all the other pokémon watching this laughed along at the cute spectacle.
"Aww… that's so adorable. Looks like those two have become great friends already," said Sally.
Layne laughed along in response and said, "I apologize for him, Tangela really likes to tickle others. It's his way of saying he likes someone."
"No problem," replied Sally with a smile. "To be honest, Treecko and a lot of my other pokémon and even I myself like being tickled. It's actually one of the activities we enjoy doing with each other."
"Cool, sounds like you and your pokémon really get along great. That's good," replied Layne.
As the two were having this conversation, Treecko released her grip on Tangela's vines. She turned herself around and stretched out her legs in front of her, giving Tangela a friendly smile and tilting her feet back and forth. Almost shouting with happiness, Tangela sent his vines rushing toward Treecko's feet and continued tickling them. Once more Treecko, along with the other pokémon and their trainers, broke into laughter.
"Dang, this is just too cute. I've got to make an artwork of this," said Layne.
He reached into the backpack and pulled out a zippable binder. Inside it was a set of pencils, coloring pencils, and different types of paper.
"Wow! Nice art supplies," complimented Sally.
"Thanks!" replied Layne happily. "You see, one of my hobbies is drawing and coloring."
"Cool, an artist huh?" said Sally.
"Yep," replied Layne. "I make my own artwork and even do editing on some artwork done by my friends."
Layne took a pencil and began drawing away on a piece of paper.
"So then, while you're working on that one, have any more I could possibly look at?" asked Sally.
"Sure, I have several completed works in that red folder in my backpack," replied Layne.
Sally reached into the backpack, pulled out the folder, and started looking through the pictures.
"Awww… how cute!" said Sally, looking at a picture of an eevee, an espeon, and a glaceon.
Layne looked over to see which picture she was looking at.
"Ah, you like them. Those three pokémon there are Ruby, Data, and Yuki, they're actual pokémon my family and I have back at home," said Layne, pointing to each one as he said their names. "What's interesting about them is that all three were adopted from really nice people."
"Interesting," replied Sally. "And what a coincidence, my espeon there is adopted as well. Only, I didn't do so from a friend. She use to belong to a cruel, abusive trainer as an eevee until my father rescued her and put her up for adoption at the pokémon shelter. I just couldn't help taking her in. Fortunately, after showing her plenty of compassion and care, she was able to shed the fear of humans she had gained as a result and is now one of the most sweet-hearted pokémon on the planet."
"That's good. I personally can't stand people who treat pokémon like dirt. They make me absolutely sick!" said Layne.
"Yeah. I feel the same way. It's nice to see though that most people treat pokémon like friends and family members. That's the way it ought to be," replied Sally.
"Agreed," replied Layne.
Sally continued flipping through each picture, stopping for a few brief seconds to look at each.
"Wow, these are really good. You've got a nice style," complimented Sally.
"Really!? Thanks, that means a lot," replied Layne.
"You're welcome," replied Sally. "In fact, I happen to know someone who's into story-writing and hopes to one day have his children stories published. I think you two would be good friends. You two could maybe even work together. He writes the stories and you illustrate."
"Hmm… sounds interesting. Maybe I'll meet him someday," replied Layne.
"Maybe you will someday," replied Sally. "Anyway, like I said earlier, I really like your artwork, especially the ones involving your eevee, espeon, and glaceon."
"I'm glad you think so," replied Layne. "In fact, if you want to, I won't mind making a picture of you."
"Sounds nice, go right for it," replied Sally.
"Awesome!" said Layne. "Now then, what would you like the picture to be like?"
"Hmm…" said Sally as she looked around. She saw a nearby tree and got an idea.
"How about a picture of me sitting on that branch there?" asked Sally.
"That works just fine," replied Layne.
Both of them walked over to the tree, Layne carrying his art kit. Sally climbed up the tree and took a seat on the branch.
"Alright, it should only take about a minute," said Layne.
"It's O.K, take as much time as you need," replied Sally.
Layne went to work drawing and coloring until he finished a few minutes later.
"Alright, it's finished!" said Layne.
"O.K, I'll be right down," replied Sally.
She climbed down the tree and walked over to Layne.
"Here it is, what do you think?" asked Layne as he showed her the picture.
"Nice, I like it!" complimented Sally. "I look pretty good in this style."
She continued to look over it and started giggling.
"Hey, my feet aren't THAT dirty!" said Sally jokingly.
Layne laughed as well and replied, "I know! It's just… well… I sort of have a thing for that kind of stuff."
Sally nodded and replied, "I understand. There's nothing wrong with that. Everyone has their interests. In fact, I actually noticed that all the girls in your pictures are barefoot."
"Ah, so you noticed huh?" said Layne.
"Yeah," replied Sally. "Like I said though, everyone has their interests. There's nothing wrong with that."
"I'm so glad you think so," replied Layne. "Some people are not as understanding as others. Also, I couldn't help noticing that you've been barefoot this whole time and I don't think I saw where your shoes were."
Sally giggled and replied, "That's because I don't have any shoes. I'm a barefooter."
Layne's eyes grew wide with surprise and interest.
"Wow, really?! That's so cool. Most of the barefooting girls I know of are characters on TV shows, video games, comics, and mangas. I know there's Maylene and Phoebe, but I didn't think there were other girls like that. I bet your feet must be nice and strong," said Layne. "In fact … I hope I'm not imposing but …uh… mind if I see how they feel? Just out of curiosity."
Sally gave him a friendly smile and replied, "Sure, no problem. I don't mind."
Both of them sat down on the grass. Layne lightly grasped both of Sally's ankles and brought them to his lap. He stared at her soles with interest for a couple seconds.
"Wow! I have to say, you have really cute feet, but they're even cuter up close," complimented Layne.
"Thank you, I'm happy you think so," replied Sally.
Layne began rubbing the soles of her feet. Sally sighed in delight from the relaxing feeling as well as lightly wiggled her toes.
"Amazing, they indeed feel strong. Yet, they're so soft and almost silky even. Do you give them special treatment?" complimented Layne.
"Sure do, it's important to give them the proper care and attention they need," replied Sally.
"I see," said Layne as he began rubbing her toes.
Sally sighed again in delight.
As Layne continued to do so, he got an idea and grin slyly. He lightly slid his finger down her sole. Sally giggled in response.
"Ah, so they are still ticklish then. Well, in that case," said Layne mischievously.
He locked down Sally's legs with his own and began tickling away at her soles. Sally soon broke out in laughter.
"Hahahahahaha! Yehehehehea, they're ticklihihihihish alrihihihihight!" laughed Sally.
"Hmm, good to know," replied Layne slyly as he continued tickling away at her soles.
Soon, Layne moved up to her toes and her laughter grew louder.
"Aha, so the toes are the most ticklish huh?" said Layne.
"Yehehehehehep!" laughed Sally as Layne continued tickling down her rows of toes.
Several seconds later, a set of blue vines appeared and began tickling Sally's soles. Layne looked over his shoulder at Tangela.
"Well, come to join in on the fun buddy?" said Layne.
Tangela nodded happily as he continued to stoke Sally's soles.
"Uhuhuhuh oh! Two against onhuhuhuhun!" laughed Sally happily.
The twosome alternated between her soles and toes occasionally. Soon though, most of the other pokémon came over and decided to join in as well. They took turns tickling or licking her soles and toes while others decided to tickle her belly.
"Hehehehehey! Thahahat's not fahahair! I'm outnuhuhuhumbered," laughed Sally happily.
Layne decided to step back and let the pokémon take it from there.
The pokémon continued happily tickling Sally's feet, with Growlithe and Lillipup playfully tugging on her toes at one point.
"Hahahahaha! It tickles so muhuhuhuhuch!" laughed Sally happily, catching a few of the pokémon and tickling them as well.
Layne watched this with a large smile and a light laugh.
"This is absolutely adorable! A girl and pokémon who enjoy tickling each other and being tickled. Truly amazing," thought Layne.
After another minute or two, the pokémon decided that Sally's probably had enough and stepped back.
As she was catching her breath, she smiled at each of them.
"That was lots of fun, nice job you guys," said Sally happily.
The crowd of pokémon cheered happily.
"You did really good as well," complimented Sally to Layne as she rose back to her feet.
"You think so? Well thanks," replied Layne. "That was a lot of fun, I'm glad you enjoyed so too."
"Indeed," replied Sally. "So then, anything else you want to do?"
"Actually, do you know anywhere with a copying machine? I actually need to make a copy of something," said Layne.
"Sure thing, there's a printer at my house that makes copies. We can stop by there and I can introduce you to some of my family's pokémon," said Sally.
"Cool, sounds like a plan!" said Layne.
The two returned their pokémon to their balls, packed up the cooler and basket, and headed to Sally's house. Once there, Sally showed Layne around her family's backyard and introduced him to the remainder of her pokémon, as well as some of her mother's and father's pokémon. Layne happily greeted all of them, even with Sally's wailmer greeting the two by spraying them with water. After a while, they returned inside the house and walked over to the printer.
"Ah, so there it is," said Layne. "Alright then, let's get this done."
He pulled out the red folder from his backpack, took out the picture of Sally, and put it in the printer. Within seconds, the copy was made and Layne retrieved both the copy and original.
"Oh, you made a copy of that picture?" asked Sally.
"Yep, and I want you to have this," said Layne as he handed her one.
"Wow, thank you so much! …But, I think you gave me the original one," said Sally.
"I know," said Layne. "I want you to have that one."
"Really?!" replied Sally. "Wow, thank you! That's very nice of you."
Layne just smiled in reply.
"You know Sally? This day has been the most fun I've had in a while. You're pretty cool. Got a pokégear? I'll be more than happy to give you my number if you want to talk every once in a while," said Layne.
"Sure, that sounds great," said Sally as she reached into her pocket and pulled out her pokégear.
Layne got out his pokégear and the two exchanged numbers.
"Cool," said Layne after the exchange was complete. "Now we'll be able to talk anytime we want, no matter how far away we are."
"Yep, sure can. Feel free to call me when you want to talk. I'll be more than happy to chat," replied Sally.
"Good to hear," replied Layne. "Well, I think I'll get back to finishing up picture I started in the park. I'll show you it when it's complete."
A few minutes later, Layne finished the picture and showed it to Sally. It depicted the scene from the park of Tangela tickling Treecko's feet.
"This is great, I love it!" said Sally.
"Glad you like it, I'll make a copy and give you this one as well," replied Layne.
"That would be really nice, thanks!" replied Sally.
Layne made a copy of that picture as well and gave Sally the original. He placed the copies he had in the folder and placed it back into the backpack. The two continued to hang out for a few more hours until the early evening.

I'm certain Sally, Layne, Amanda and/or Brenda might be curious about the scar Jacob's Charizard, Smaug, has.
